About the trip

A journey through Black Rock Forest

What We Love

  • Visit beautiful waterfalls
  • Multiple open views of the Hudson Valley
  • Unique ecosystems in Black Rock Forest
  • Stop at a local farm stand

Your Day

Join us on a hike through Black Rock Forest, a hidden gem in the Hudson Valley that's home to unique ecosystems. Our hike begins as we pass Mineral Springs Falls and hike along the spring as we head uphill. After our first tough climb, we'll pass by Jupiter's Boulder and soon a break will await us at Sutherland Pond, where the bravest among us can dip our toes.  We'll follow winding trails through the park - a favorite place of biologists and botanists due to its high species and habitat diversity - and observe the variety of berries and wild edibles that fill the forest at our feet and the stunning views in front of our eyes. If there's time, a stop at one of our favorite farm stands awaits us before we head back to the city, reinvigorated and relaxed after our time in the forest.

Perfect for : New hikers open up for a challenge, intermediate hikers

Level 5

Monderate - For fit beginners or experienced hikers

Level 5 trips place greater emphasis challenging you physically. Whether you’re still new to the scene or have some experience, you’ll appreciate a more deliberate pace with a capable group.

We’ll be out on the trails for five to seven hours. Prepare for this trip by doing cardio and strength exercise at least three days a week.

Be ready to cover six to nine miles today before heading home.

We’ll be hiking on moderate mountainous terrain, which may require navigating various rock faces and trail conditions including steep inclines and uneven ground.

Elevation Change

Up to 1,800 feet per day.

Up to 8,000 feet.

Weather conditions can be quite different from the city in the mountainous regions we visit. Temperatures can be quite cooler as we head north or to higher elevations. Keep your eyes out for an email from our team a few days in advance of your trip. That email will provide updated weather conditions and will alert you to anything additional you should put in your pack to prepare. We head outside in any weather, as long as we know it's safe, and we don't let a little rain or wind ruin a chance for an adventure. You can contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions about preparing for trail conditions.
